How to turn location on
The location box on Ping stays off when this browser has blocked location. Check-in still works. Watchers see an approximate position, about 100 m, only when the box is on and this browser allows it.
After you allow it, reload Ping. The box comes back, still set the way you saved it.
On this computer
In Chrome or Edge, click the lock or settings icon in the address bar, open site settings, set Location to Allow, and reload Ping.
In Firefox, click the lock icon, open the permission for this site, set Location to Allow, and reload Ping.
In Safari on a Mac, open Safari Settings, Websites, Location, and set lastknow.com to Allow. Also turn Location Services on for Safari under System Settings, Privacy and Security. Then reload Ping.
On an iPhone
Safari and the Home Screen app do not share this permission. Allowing one leaves the other blocked.
For Safari: open Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, and turn it on. Set Safari Websites to While Using the App. Open Ping in Safari and reload.
For the Home Screen icon: open Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, then LastKnow, and set While Using. Open LastKnow from that icon and reload Ping. The LastKnow row appears after the app has asked once.
On Android
Turn Location on in Settings. In Chrome, use the lock icon on this site and set Location to Allow. A home-screen icon can have its own switch under Settings, Location, App permissions. Reload Ping.
The computer itself
The browser can allow the site and still have nothing to read. On Windows, turn Location on under Privacy and security and let the browser use it. On a Mac, turn Location Services on and enable the browser. A desktop with no location service keeps the box off.
What a watcher sees
About 100 m, and only watchers. It is not part of a letter. A check-in with the box off still resets the timer.
